EJ2 Entry 2: Look Back

For this blog entry, I watched the anime movie Look Back, based on the manga by Chainsaw Man creator Tatsuki Fujimoto. It's an excellent and beautiful movie about the nature of creating art and the connections we make through it, animated beautifully by the production company Studio Durian. This movie spoke to me deeply as an artist myself, who was very much in the same place in middle school as the main character Ayumu Fujino, always trying to appeal to my friends with my art by drawing funny little comics and doodles to make them laugh. The bittersweet, tragic ending moved me to tears when I first saw it, and immediately after, I bought a copy of the manga. Every time I think about the movie, it drives me to get back into drawing, to create things to connect with other people, and the value in that connection. Overall, I think this may be one of my favorite films ever. I've posted a video of my favorite scene in the movie, a montage of moments between the main character and her friend, as an answer to the question of why the main character chooses to continue to make manga.
